Pied-a-Terre : A Modern Expression in Plum

Nomad, New York City

Set against the backdrop of New York City, this apartment serves as a thoughtfully envisioned second home for a pair of accomplished professionals whose primary residence remains in Connecticut. With their adult children now living in the city, this space became an opportunity to create something entirely their own—an environment that reflects both where they’ve been and what they’ve built.

The design embraces a sense of vibrancy and individuality, layering color, texture, and moments of playfulness throughout. At the same time, it nods subtly to the clients’ heritage in a way that feels personal rather than prescriptive. A vintage Chinese vase anchors the foyer, while artwork by Chinese American artist Yangyan Pang introduces depth and narrative. In the living area, rich tones of red are woven into the palette, offering a quiet continuity that feels both intentional and expressive.

The result is a home that feels collected, celebratory, and deeply reflective of its owners—balancing cultural references with a broader, more nuanced sense of identity.
